JAY & ROSALIE

You know, life is good when you get to meet kids like this.  Look at them!  When I walked into their home, I sat on the floor with Rosie and we looked at each other silently for a bit.  That was it, she knew me... I was in.  Jay, adorable with his blue eyes and all kinds of information made his way over slowly.  We played with some of his toys and soon I was gifted a peek of his amazing dimples.  The family and I enjoyed a great dinner and planned the photo shoot the next day.  Well, a few glitches occured saturday, then rain seemingly all day sunday.. We made a plan to meet at the museum for indoor shots when miraculously the rain stopped. For 20 or so minutes!  Enough time to get my photog hat on and shoot like a fiend.  Jay had enough of me staring at him and eventually plopped down next to his sister, and I got the pose.  A few adjustments in photoshop made it complete for me to work from.

The painting was wonderfully effortless.  The family gave me free rein to be myself and I ran with it.  This painting has hints of my thoughts of wanting the background to be more than just a backdrop.  The kids are in front of it,  but still a part of the energy of the brushstrokes, and color of the flowers.

It was a memorable experience for me to meet this generous and loving family.  An honor to create a painting for them.  You can find the finished portrait here.
